Knytt's /kˈnɪt/[1] is a freeware platform game. The name comes from a character in the book, Vem ska trösta Knyttet, from the Moomin series by renowned Finnish-Swedish children's author Tove Jansson.[2]
A peculiar creature living on a unique planet, the Knytt (which roughly translates as "tiny creature" in Swedish)[3] is abducted by an alien in a spaceship for no apparent reason and taken into outer space.[4][5] While the alien is traveling through space, the spaceship is hit by a meteoroid and crashes onto another planet. Thankfully, the Knytt and the alien who has abducted it survive, but the spaceship is so heavily damaged that they are trapped on this new world. It is up to the Knytt to venture courageously through the various types of terrain and caves on this planet to retrieve the pieces of spaceship so that it can return to its home.
There is a alternative version of the game called Brutally Unfair Knytt, created to promote the release of B.U.T.T.O.N. which contains a re-skinned world, new item placements and "some crazy surprises."[6]
Gameplay[]
The Knytt can jump and freely climb up walls. Falling down from heights does not cause damage but the Knytt may die upon coming in contact with with water, certain creatures and other hazards. Upon death the player respawns at the last activated savepointt.
Pressing the "A" key reveals a tracking beam which points to the currently nearest objective.
